How to play XCODEZ
Apart from the obvious change in hue, XCODEZ look pretty similar to XWORDZ - that is until someone cleverer than you points out that "SOMEBODY HAS STOLEN THE CLUES!!!". Welcome to the wonderful world of XCODEZ.

What's going on? Where's the clues?
Panic ye not mon amie, XCODEZ do not have clues. Instead, each number in the grid represents a letter of the alphabet.

To get you going, you are supplied with three letters which will enable you to start guessing words and discovering other letters.

Viewing XCODEZ
As with XWORDZ, XCODEZ do not have scrollbars which means that you are unable to scroll parts of the page that are not visible within the browser window.

Since XCODEZ are always displayed in a grid 13 x 13, unless your screen resolution is set to a minimum of 1024 x 768, it is likely that you will need to scroll the page. This can be done by holding down Shift and the appropriate Cursor key.

The page layout
Starting from the top of the page you have the 'title bar' which displays the name of the XCODE on the left and the name of the creator on the right. If the name of the creator is underlined, you can click on it to e-mail them a comment about their XCODE.

Just below the 'title bar' we have the aptly named 'info bar' which displays, yep you guessed it, information about the XCODE.

Underneath the 'info bar' is the main game area consisting of the 'reference grid' (to keep track of the letters you've used), the 'main grid', the 'code grid' (where you type your answers) and the game button. More on these later.

Finally, at the bottom of the XCODE page is the 'base bar' which contains a link to the XWORDZ web site and an official XCODE ID.

Editing the 'code grid'
The blue grid, containing cells numbered from 1 to 26, is where you enter the letters that fill the 'main grid'. To edit this grid, just follow these simple steps.

STEP 1
Moving your mouse over a numbered cell turns the mouse pointer into a hand and highlights the cell to indicate that it can be clicked.

STEP 2
Clicking on the cell will highlight the clue and corresponding cells in the 'game grid' indicating that you are in edit mode.
STEP 3
Pressing any alpha key (A-Z) on your keyboard will insert a character into the highlighted cells and remove that letter from the 'reference grid'.

1 J

STEP 4
Pressing Delete will remove the character and restore the letter in the 'reference grid'. If a cell already contains a character and you press an alpha key, the old character will be replaced by the new one.
STEP 5
When you are happy with the letter entered, press the Return/Enter key on your keyboard to exit edit mode or simply click on another numbered cell.

The game buttons
When you have completed as much as you can, you will probably want to know if all your entries are correct. The game button, located just below the XCODE grid, will tell you all you need to know. Here's a run down on the buttons.

FINISH
Clicking your left mouse button on the "Finish" button will reveal the correct answers in the grid. Correct answers are shown in green and incorrect answers are shown in red.

Stats
STATS
Once the "Finish" button has been clicked it will change into a button labelled "Stats". Click this with the left mouse button to reveal the statistics of the XCODE.
