How to use XWORDZ Creator
Creating your very own XWORDZ with the XWORDZ Creator is a fairly straightforward process. However, I appreciate not everyone is as intellectual and sexually superior as me, so I've put together some prize-winning instructions to help you less fortunate individuals.

Viewing XWORDZ Creator
Unlike most web pages, XWORDZ Creator pages do not have scrollbars. Without scrollbars you are unable to scroll parts of the page that are not visible within the browser window. I won't bore you with the reason why this is the case, but I will tell you that to scroll an XWORDZ Creator page which is not fully visible within the web browser window, hold down Shift and the appropriate Cursor key.

Step 1
The first page you encounter allows you to enter some basic information about the XWORD you are going to create.

The 'XWORD name' field enables you to give your XWORD a title. When you actually come to create the XWORD the contents of this field will appear in the top left-hand corner of the page. You are limited to a maximum of 30 characters and can leave this field blank if you do not want to name your XWORD.

The 'Your name' field enables you to leave your moniker on the XWORD you create. The contents of this field will appear in the top right-hand corner of the page. Again you are limited to 30 characters and can leave it blank if you wish.

Another optional field is the 'E-mail address'. If you decide to provide this information, when the XWORD has been created and displayed, the creator name in the top right-hand corner will become underlined. Clicking on the name will launch the users default e-mail application enabling them to send you a comment about your XWORD.

Finally, the 'Grid size' field allows you to specify the size of your XWORD grid. To change the default setting of 5 x 5, simply click on the downward arrow and chose your desired grid size from the dropdown list.

When you are happy with your entries, click on the 'NEXT>' link at the bottom of the page.

TIP: Instead of pointing & clicking with the left mouse button, press the TAB key to move to the next field.

Step 2
Things start getting a little more interesting in Step 2 because this is where you enter the answers to your XWORD.

This is done by moving around the grid using the cursor keys and entering letters in the cells using the A-Z keys. Your position within the grid is indicated by the green coloured cell.

Answers must be a least 3 characters in length (i.e. must span at least 3 cells) and the grid must contain at least 2 words before you are able to continue to Step 3.

Should you need to clear the grid because you've made a bit of a pigs ear of filling it in, simply click on the button labelled 'RESET GRID'.

When you are happy with your entries, click on the 'NEXT>' link at the bottom of the page.
NOTE: On larger grids you may experience a slight pause before Step 3 appears, so please be patient.

Should you wish to, you can return to Step 1 (to review or make changes) by clicking on the '<BACK' link at the bottom of the page.
NOTE: Changing 'XWORD name', 'Your name' or 'E-mail address' fields will not effect any entries made in Step 2. However, changing the 'Grid size' field will reset the grid in step 2.

TIP: Try using an 'XWORD solver' program to help fill in your grid. These will suggest words based on a pattern of letters & 'wildcards' (symbols such as a question mark that represent unknown letters).
Example: typing "CR?S?W?RD" into a XWORD solver should suggest the word "CROSSWORD".

Step 3
You're almost there. Step 3 is the final step and this is where you need to provide clues for the answers you provided in Step 2.

To achieve this feat, simply type your clues into the text boxes which appear based on the answers given in Step 2.

Each text box is headed up with the clue number and the answer.

All text boxes must contain a clue before you able to continue and clues can be no more than 70 characters in length.

The text box for the clue you are currently editing will be highlighted in green.

When you are happy with your entries, click on the 'CREATE XWORD>' link at the bottom of the page.

Should you wish to, you can return to Step 2 (to review or make changes) by clicking on the '<BACK' link at the bottom of the page.
NOTE: Any clues entered in Step 3 are remembered by XWORD Creator, enabling you to flip back and forward through the Steps without having to keep retyping. However, if you change an answer in Step 2, the clue for it will be blank when you move to Step 3.

TIP: Using a dictionary may save you a lot of time. I'm not suggesting that you copy dictionary definitions, but they will often point you in the right direction.

Saving your XWORD
Before your new XWORD appears you will be presented with a page that tells you how you can save your creation to your computer.

When you are happy with the instructions on how to save your XWORD, click on the 'OK>' link at the bottom of the page.

Your XWORD will appear in all it's glory.

Game over dude
There now, that wasn't such a chore was it.
Still confused? Why not pay a visit to your doctor and ask him to book you in for a brain transplant... failing that, you can always e-mail me.
